Many myths and tales reveal the beginnings of Šmarna gora to us. One of them being: Once upon a time there lived a giant named Hrust that was frightening all the people in the neighbourhood. He had a dog to help him with hunting and intimidating people. And this dog had a dragon's head. The courageous Janez the Kajžar decided to make an end to it. In the night he tied a rabbit into a bag, took an iron stick and went for the giant. When he approached the cave where the giant was sleeping, he untied the bag and let the rabbit go. The dog who guarded the giant went for the rabbit. The giant woke up as well. At first he sneezed so hard that Janez was blown off to the other side of the river Sava. Then the giant started throwing stones over Sava. He insisted on throwing them all day and then he crossed the river and made a mound out of the rocks. The work done he stepped on the mound, looked around the world and dug himself into the middle of the mountain. This expains the appearance of today's saddle, Grmada and Gora.
