In the slopes and gorges of Šmarna gora there are many game animals. The most common being deer that hide from visitors and stray dogs in less frequented parts. Smaller wild fauna, especially pheasant and brown hare, are so small in population that they are considered endangered species. In Šmarna gora you will also find squirrels, dormice, fox, martens, skunks and many species of birds – especially partridges, buzzards and sparrowhawks.
