Šmarna gora with Grmada is an isolated hill, mostly overgrown by forest vegetation exceptionally concluded unit. The majority of woods have mixed trees, even though on the Northern side there are more beeches. On the Western side there are basophilic pine forests. On the Southern slopes are termophilic forests.
The flora is really colourful. In this area there are 832 species of plants, which is almost a third of all species in Slovenia. Most of them grow on steep, limestone, warm south hillsides – in the thermophilic woods.
We recommend to visit the Forest educational path over Grmada of Šmarna gora that is marked by round greenyellow blazes. The path takes us over the southern slope to the top of Grmada of Šmarna gora and on the Northern slope takes us back to the starting point. There are more then 10 species of plants and woodland vegetation.
