The trail over Peske
One of the old trails takes us over Peske. From Vikrče the trail steadily scales up the mixed forest, and then steeply over the sandy limestoney slope through the bushes, heather and pines till the trail from Zavrh. The trail is becoming really popular with the visitors of Šmarna gora, as it is not muddy, the evening sun due to the location of the trail creates unique light effects in the late afternoon hours when Gora is most frequently visited. The trail got its name for its limestone gravel (pesek) that was a century ago dug by local women and sold on market as the original cleaning agent for burned food in aluminium dishes.

The Kovač's trail
It was open for climbers in 1927, but was used by the locals before. It starts above the Gostilna Kovač in Vikrče (together with the Wester's), but then it takes you quite steeply over the northern slopes of Grmada till the road to from Zavrh. As it takes you through the shadowy beech wood it is most appropriate to take in hot summer days. Not many people use it and we do not recommend it in the rainy weather as it may be too slippery.

The trail of Wester
The trail starts at the Kovač inn and leads over the ridge to the top of Grmada. The first part is very steep, at some places even exposed, meanwhil in the upper part the sloping is more gentle. On the third of the way it combines with the Climbing/Pogačnik's trail and on two thirds of the way also the Mazi's trail. In the middle there is a less noticeable exit of the Freedom Trail. Due to its steepness this trail is suitable for people in better physical condition. All the time the trail follows the western ridge of Grmada to its top and then it lowers to the Saddle where it joins the Romarska trail.

The Climbing or Pogačnik's trail
Not far from the Inn Kovač in the direction towards Tacen (at homestead Pri Bačniku) we turn left to the woods then we scale to the rocks. We reach Mali Turnec in 2 minutes, after that we pass a rock corrosion using the spikes and steel rope to the climbing route. The rock has several different segments and is very firm, so it is no coincidence that for many decades it has presented a climbing kindergarten for alpinists from Ljubljana and other places. The trail was open in 1928 and is suitable for all those who want to test their skills for more demanding tours in the mountains.
